From The Rabbi’s Study…Shabbat, October 4,5, 2024/2,3 Tishrei 5785
Wednesday night is the Erev Rosh HaShanah blessings on the candles and ends with YOM TOV! If you would like, and have Yahrzeit candles, kindle, one for the Israelis that have died in the war. Shabbat candles just the regular Sabbath Blessings over the candles because
Rosh HaShanah ends on Friday night.
Sunday is Taschlich, follow the information.
This Friday night and Shabbat morning is called Shabbat Shuvah! The Sabbath of Return, also known as Aseret Yemei Teshuva because these are the Ten Days Of Awe/ Atonement. We greet each other “Gmar Hatima Tova/May you be Sealed in the Book of Life for Goodness.
The Torah has the song of Moses, providing the final review of Israel’s history. Moses then is told to climb up Mount Nebo, from which he may see the Land of Israel. There he will die, without entering the land.
Tzidduk Hadin/The Righteous Judge…Moses declares all the ways of G-d are just and righteous (Deuteronomy 33:4). This means that suffering and even death must be accepted as demonstrations of G-d’s righteousness. This declaration is also heard as part of a funeral, sometimes as, “Baruch Dyan Emet” used.
Today, voices cry out in the dark…It has been 362 days since October 7th, 2023, when Israel was attacked by Hamas, broke a ceasefire, and hundreds of hostages taken. Now 109 Hostages remain, some are dead. Hezbollah attacked Israel from the North, and the Houthis from Yemen in the South. Hundreds of rockets and missiles, many are relocated, many are now in bomb shelters.
Israel has to have B’hatzlacha/ continued success in all their endeavors. Some of our troops were killed this morning in Lebanon, some of our civilians in Jaffa were killed by Arab terrorists from the West Bank. ALL Jewish communities in Israel must contact police if there is an Arab in their community, and these orders were from the rabbis!
We must continue to work, pray, and yes even enjoy ourselves because we need to live a good LIFE! We choose LIFE! And we WILL DANCE AGAIN!
We also pray for those that lost their lives in the Hurricane, Helene, and for those that lost everything.
Please keep in mind as Jews we may donate money to many organizations for Israel and for those in Need Here. Tzedakah is a mitzvah, by helping others is a mitzvah, and for STANDING STRONG WITH ISRAEL IS A MITZVAH! AM YSRAEL CHAI!
Shabbat Shalom v’Yom Tov,
Rabbi Helene Ainbinder
