From The Rabbi’s Study… Shabbat March 28, 29, 2025/28, 29 Adar 5785
Shabbat HaChodesh: This Sabbath is the maftir and Haftarah of Shabbat HaChodesh (Exodus 12:1-20; Ezekiel 45:16-46:18). The Sabbath before the Hebrew month of Nisan is called Shabbat HaChodesh. This maftir reading is especially chosen for the occasion of describing the paschal sacrifice of the first Passover in Egypt, as well as the preparation of the perennial celebration of the festival.
A brief overview of the Torah portion. There is a description of the records kept of all the work and materials used in the construction of the tabernacle, as well as the donations by the Israelites. Moses and the Israelites celebrate the completion of the tabernacle by anointing it. G-d’s Presence fills the tabernacle and leads the people throughout their journeys.
The Judaic concepts and values are accountability of public officials, and Kevod Adonai: Glory of G-d. In the Torah portion we read (in Exodus 40:34) about how the glory of G-d filled the tabernacle. At the same time, Judaism has always taught that G-d’s Presence fills the entire universe, and that G-d may be worshipped wherever good people dwell.
You have just finished the Book of Shemot (Exodus), which contains 1209 verses, 40 chapters, and 11 Sidrot.
One rises after the Torah is read and says: HAZAK, HAZAK, V’NITCHAZEK!
STRENGTH, STRENGTH, AND TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!
Shabbat Shalom V’Am Ysrael Chai,

It is with profound sympathy to inform everyone of the passing of one of our earliest congregants, Elliot Foote.
May his memory be a blessing.
May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
