Haftarah: (Zachariah 14)
When lighting the candles on Wednesday night the blessing ends v’Yom Tov.
On Shabbat the blessing ends ner shel Shabbat v’Yom Tov!
My Sukkah is up and my lulav and etrog are ready to be shaken!
Thank you to Marilee Perkal for graciously hosting a Sukkah gathering in her home.
Kindly, make your RSVPs and read the announcements.
The Torah portion continues with the details of the holy Sabbath, and the festivals.
The Haftarah is taken from the last chapter of the Book of Zechariah. It Is prophet Zachariah’s vision of G-d’s judgment upon the enemy nations. Israel will finally be redeemed from the hands of their enemies. At that time the nations will be converted to the worship of the One G-d of Israel, and Jerusalem will be elevated into the religious center of the world.
Our tradition has it that the final judgment described by Zachariah will take place on the festival of Sukkot, and thus it is this connection to the holiday and chosen to be read.
May this festival of Sukkot have Israel obtaining victory against all their enemies.
May this Shabbat have the Hostages returned to their loved ones.
May this Sabbath have our leaders Standing Strong with Israel.
Last week a rocket hurt 67 Israelis and seriously hurt 12! We pray for their Rufah Shelyamah, a speedy recovery!
This week our country finally sent the much needed weapons that were delayed since last year, and a missile defense system with 100 troops to operate it! Many organizations continue to send medical and other supplies to Israel, and many of us continue to buy Israeli products to help not only their economy but their Ruach/Spirits!
AM Ysrael Chai!
Shabbat Shalom V’ Yom Tov,
Rabbi Helene Ainbinder
