It will be a dairy lunch and we are asking for fruit\, desserts and salads. \nTold in the Book of Esther (“Megillah”) and celebrated on the holiday of Purim.  The Purim story takes place in ancient Persia following the destruction of the first Holy Temple. Wicked Haman convinces King Ahasuerus to have the Jews killed. Encouraged by her cousin Mordechai\, Queen Esther\, the king’s unwilling wife\, risks her life to intercede on her people’s behalf. The result is a stunning reversal\, which is celebrated each year on Purim.

SUMMARY:Yom Ha Atzma’ut (Israel Independence Day)
DESCRIPTION:For American Jews\, celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut has been a way to express solidarity with the state of Israel and to strengthen their alliance with it. In many communities\, it is one of few occasions in which Jewish organizations and synagogues of different ideologies and denominations cooperate in forming a common celebration. There is not yet an accepted “tradition” of how to celebrate this holiday\, and only time will tell whether certain customs\, foods\, prayers\, and melodies will be linked in the Jewish mind with this holiday\, as with holidays that emerged many centuries before Yom Ha’atzmaut. For Jews around the world\, joining with Israelis celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut has become a concrete link in the Jewish connection to the land of Israel.

DESCRIPTION:Lag BaOmer\, also Lag B’Omer or Lag LaOmer\, is a Jewish religious holiday celebrated on the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer\, which occurs on the 18th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. The holiday celebrates a break in a plague that is said to have occurred during the days of Rabbi Akiva. The Talmud states that the great teacher of Jewish mysticism Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai died on Lag B’Omer\, and in modern times the holiday has come to symbolize the resilience of the Jewish spirit.

DESCRIPTION:The festival of Shavuot (or Shavuos\, in Ashkenazi usage; Shabhuʿoth in Classical and Mizrahi Hebrew Hebrew: שבועות\, lit. “Weeks”) is a Jewish holiday that occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan (late May or early June). Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day G-d gave the Torah to the entire Israelite nation assembled at Mount Sinai\, although the association between the giving of the Torah (Matan Torah) and Shavuot is not explicit in the Biblical text. The holiday is one of the Shalosh Regalim\, the three Biblical pilgrimage festivals. It marks the conclusion of the Counting of the Omer.

SUMMARY:Rosh Hashanah
DESCRIPTION:Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה)\, (literally “head of the year”)\, is the Jewish New Year. It is the first of the High Holidays or Yamim Noraim (“Days of Awe”)\, celebrated ten days before Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is observed on the first two days of Tishrei\, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. It is described in the Torah as יום תרועה (Yom Teruah\, a day of sounding [the Shofar]).  There will be a service and Kiddush lunch on Thursday at 11:00am.

SUMMARY:Tashlich
DESCRIPTION:The goal of Tashlich is to cast both our sins and the Heavenly prosecutor (a.k.a. the Satan) into the Heavenly sea. And when we shake our clothes after the Tashlich prayer\, this is a tangible act to achieve the spiritual goal of shaking sins from our soul. \nNeedless to say\, the physical motions near the water and fish of Tashlich are not what grant us atonement. But if we pay attention to the symbolism and apply the sincere desire to heal our relationship with G‑d as portrayed in the physical demonstrations of Tashlich\, then it serves as a crucial part in the process of repenting and returning to G‑d in purity. \nMay we all shake ourselves from sin and be signed and sealed in the Book of Life for a good and sweet new year!
